The HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One multifunction inkjet printer is an improvement over the mediocre 5510. The PC and MAC compatible Officejet 5610 scans/faxes/copies, at an improved, 48 bit, 1,200 x 2,400 dpi resolution. The color printing is at a max 4,800 x 1,200 optimized dpi while black and white is at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi, both of which are par. The Officejet 5610’s print quality is still merely fair. The text and graphics are average and the photos are many times grainy and show streaks. Printing is slightly faster at a max average of 17 pages per minute. The Officejet 5610 surprisingly still lacks slots for any major memory card or a PictBridge port for directly connecting to your digital camera. The printer still uses the simple 2 ink cartridge system with 4 colors (HP 56 Black Inkjet and HP 57 Tricolor Inkjet) but there is now an option to replace the black with photo ink cartridge (HP 58 Photo Inkjet) for 6 color photo printing. However, since they’re not individual cartridges they are less efficient and might cost more in the long run. Overall, the Officejet 5610 is an improvement and worth a look but there are still better printers out there for the cost.
